Similarities and Differences
Book or Film?
Personally, I preferred the book to the film. It went into much greater depth about Katie’s past, and the story just seemed to make a lot more sense. I found that the events travelled too fast-for me- in the film. It skipped parts that I found really important to the story, took them out and tended to replace them with unnecessary parts. Over the course of reading the book, the reader gets to warm to characters, or turn a cold shoulder. In the movie your mind has to be made up pretty quickly. Reading the book allowed for creativity, to use imagination, for one to create their own appearances for the characters, to be able to visualize the scenery. The writing Sparks used really helps to make the reader feel as though they are watching the events unfold before their very eyes. In the book, you got to get into the characters’ heads, see what they are thinking and how they feel. This really helps the reader get to know the characters, and understand them.
I truly believe that the movie would have been better had I not read the book first. I would have spent more time enjoying the little it included, rather than worrying and picking out all the bits and pieces that should not have been there, or that should have been.
The book is, in my opinion, far superior to the film.
